What are the benefits of using horses to move timber in woodlands?

The prime benefit is to the woodland itself. Using horsepower is a minimum impact approach to woodland management. The horse reduces soil compaction to a minimum, there is little noise, and with care there is little or no damage to surrounding standing timber.
