The horse has proven to be a very useful aid in modern day forestry. This minimal impact approach to the woodland environment means that there is virtually no compaction of the soil and with care, no damage to the surrounding standing timber.
The horse is capable of operating in areas with poor access or difficult terrain i.e. steep and rocky or ground where machinery could not easily be used.
The horse is an economically viable alternative system for moving timber over distances up to 200 mts on a wide range of site types.
Good for Wood's horsepower is currently provided by Jack, a 14 year old Shire horse gelding who has given three years service to the business. |
